Things to Do in the Winter in New England

I guess it’s possible to have fun even when it’s colder than 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Recently, I posted a TikTok asking people for advice on what to do for fun in New Hampshire (I just moved here after 4 winters in blazing heat). Other than the three things I’ve already been going (working, drinking, and hiking in the freezing cold) I wanted to know if that’s it or if there’s anything else out there. Here’s a list of the top responses I got in the comment section!

Disclaimer & Apology: I learned from posting this video that Portsmouth is not considered to be in “the middle of nowhere” lol whoops!

Over the course of the winter, my goal is to try all of these at least one time :)

#1 Skiing

I did say I can’t afford it, but after all my comments told me to look anyway it’s actually really not as expensive as I thought! I am also scared of snapping my neck and being paralyzed forever but I might try cross country skiing!

#2 Go to the Beach Anyway

Best advice. I went for sunset the other day and the whole sky way PINK and PURPLE AGH it was so cold but I layered up and decided that I will go at least once a week.

#3 Ice Skating

I love skating, I just sort of forgot about it. I will definitely be trying to find a rink and rent some skates!

#4 Crafting (ie knitting, crochet, scrapbooking)

I love my photo albums and scrap books and knitting seems a bit out of my reach for now but my sister is excellent and crocheting and it really inspired me. I went out and bought some wool recently and my own crochet hook! I will try a scarf first I think

#5 Leaving

In the books right now between January and March we have a tentative Mexico, Florida, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, and Chile with a potential Argentina depending how much time I can get off from work.

#6 Hibernation

I did this last night, just completely wrapped up in blankets from 6 pm onward. Amazing 10/10. I moved here to appreciate a slower paced lifestyle and hibernation is it.

#7 Snow Activities (Snowshoeing, Snowtubing, & Snowmobiling)

I don’t know what Snowshoeing and snowtubing are, I’ll look into it further. Snowmobiling looks scary but also fun? I will have to give it a shot.

#8 Winter Arc at the Gym

Self-explanatory. Will do my best to be ripped by summer.

#9 Exploring New Towns

I have so far been up to the White Mountains once and it was incredible! I explored Conway quite a bit and can’t wait to go North again! I have a little list somewhere on my desk of tiny towns that looked cute to visit.

#10 Learning to Cook

A basic life skill, but I’m really (really) bad at it. I want to get into cooking, it’s just so hard. If you have any recipe ideas please leave in the comments!
